The Why

Black women face disproportionate health disparities across all stages of life. From delayed diagnoses to biased care and systemic inequities, the current medical-industrial complex often fails us. BWHEL was born out of the belief that these challenges are not individual failures, but systemic problems—and that lasting change requires both cultural shift and innovative solutions.


BWHEL was founded by Kourtney Bobb, a healthcare administrator, public health researcher, and advocate for Black women’s health equity. Her research, explores the deeply rooted inequities Black women face in healthcare both in the past and the present. Inspired to act, Kourtney created BWHEL: Black Women’s Health Equity and Liberation to transform those insights into a technology-driven, community-centered solution that empowers Black women to take control of their own health and wellness.
